Mass General Hospital | Simches Research Center

Boston, MA

Project

The 365,000-sf Simches Research Center at Massachusetts General Hospital is a "magnet" research building for regenerative medicine, human genetics, and computational, integrative, and systems biology. Research at the MGH took a new turn with the opening of the Richard B. Simches Research Building. Simches is situated in Charles River Plaza, directly adjacent to the main hospital campus. The plan for the building is to emphasize interdisciplinary partnerships to expand the boundaries of modern medical research. The building added six floors above an existing building with underground parking. The central equipment corridors with double-loaded labs include interior support cores with open labs at the exterior wall. Multiple research programs, as well as a 20,000 sf vivarium are housed within the facility. Leggat McCall Properties acted as the owner's representative, coordinating all work with internal staff, design and construction team, landlord.
